The Philosopher was painted for my father, a great thinker, reader, and ingenious inventor. I wanted to show the character as a man of learning, and someone not set in any particular time. The moon shining through the window represents all that is hidden, still to be understood, whilst it also reminds us that time passes relentlessly.
